Khanamukh Primary Health Centre Remains Distant Dream for Villagers

JOYSAGAR: The local people of the Khanamukh area under the Amguri LAC of Sivasagar district have slammed the State Government for its alleged apathy and negligence in the matter of health care in the greater Khanamukh area. Sources have informed that the locals are upset with the severe negligence displayed by the state Health department towards the Khanamukh Primary Health Centre.

The Khanamukh Primary Health Centre was formally proposed by the then Congress government in 1992 and the then Chief Minister of the State Hiteshwar Saikia had laid the foundation stone of the PHC on June 3, 1992. Prior to that, three local farmers Deban Bora, Badan Bora and Mangal Bora had donated for free about 5 bighas of farmland to the State government to construct the proposed PHC.

The poor farmers had an honest and noble feeling towards their village and had donated the land, dreaming that there would be the hospital for the villagers. But after long 27 years, the government authorities have not taken any positive initiative to run the said hospital and thus the government hospital is yet to see the light of the day. The RCC buildings of the hospital with the necessary facilities for the functioning of the hospital were constructed about 17 years ago. However, for some unknown reason, the hospital remains non-functional to the utter discomfort of the villagers of the Khanamukh, Bhagamukh, Chatiachiga and about 20 other villages.

The villagers are of the view that with nasty politics has made its entry in the affairs of the hospital, political equations have seemingly become more important than the health of the people. It is also alleged that medical staff appointed for Khanamukh PHC are serving in other government hospitals.

Presently, taking advantage of the deserted situation of the buildings, some anti-social elements are using the same for liquor consumption and gambling activities, while the presence of cattle in the campus is a common sight. Further, some valuable properties of the hospital, including the water motor and ceiling fans, have reportedly been stolen.
