MANGALDAI, June 5: Filly the State Health Department has placed Dr. Rumki Paul- the controversial medical officer of Kharupetia Primary Health Center in Darrang district, who declared a living new-born baby dead after illegally performing the Medical Termition of Pregncy (MTP) of the mother on May 26 last. The Health department vide letter No. HLA 385/2015/15-A issued on June 2 suspended Dr. Paul with immediate effect.

It may be mentioned that setting aside all medical ethics and minimum sense of humanity Dr. Rumki Paul had termed a living six months foetus as dead and performed the surgery upon the mother for the delivery of the baby. Immediately after the surgery the lady doctor wrapped the baby in a polythene bag and handed it over to the father terming it as dead. But much to the astonishment of the shocked and panicked father, the dead baby made some movements inside the polythene bag only prove the lady doctor was wrong. When the father informed the lady doctor, she immediately left the scene without taking minimum care and treatment of both the new born and the mother.

Another doctor present in the hospital too allegedly did not paid any attention to the baby and the mother. When the family members raised a hue and cry and informed the police, the police without making delay took the initiative for shifting both the new born and the mother to Mangaldai Civil Hospital where the baby was declared dead. Significantly Dr. Rumki Paul allegedly took an amount of Rs. 2500.00 from the husband of Eliza Begum for performing the delivery that too in the government hospital.
