Khasi Hills DM issues order against overloaded vehicles

SHILLONG, June 28: The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills has promulgated an order under Section 144 of the Code of Crimil Procedure act (CrPC) prohibiting overloaded commercial vehicles carrying weight of more than nine tones from plying along the Nongspung-Laitmawsing road, Mawkneng-Nongspung road and Sohiong-Pariong road. This order came following reports by the Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), Shillong South Division that overloaded trucks are plying on the said roads which are village roads and not desigted to bear the loading capacity of more than nine metric tones.  Further, the routes are having weak culverts and two major SPT bridges which may collapse at any time due to frequent and daily plying of heavy overloaded trucks.
