SHILLONG, Apr 10: Working president of Khun Hynniewtrep tiol Awakening Movement (KHM) THS Bonney, along with other members of the political party, on Tuesday apprised the Director (Distribution) and Chief Engineer of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) of the non-availability of electricity in  Mawtap, Sohiong villages and also in other villages for the past one week because of a damaged transformer.

“The people of these areas have been badly affected because of the electricity problem. We have received information that it will take around two months to receive a new transformer,” Bonny told reporters here after a meeting with the officials of MeECL at Lumjingshai.

Bonny further said that the delay in installing a new transformer in rural villages indicates that there is a lack of concern for the people of the rural villages. During the meeting with KHM, Director of Distribution and Chief Engineer of MeECL KN War, however, assured the delegation of installing a new transformer with a week. “We hope that the assurance made by the officials of MeECL will materialize so that the electricity problems of the people residing in rural areas will be solved,” he said.
