SHILLONG, April 16: Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MLA from North Shillong constituency Adelbert Nongrum said Meghalaya requires strong laws and mechanism to check influx. Speaking to The Sentinel, Nongrum said, “We need strong laws to check the increasing entry of illegal non-indigenous people into the State and to check this we need a strong mechanism.” Nongrum said the KHNAM was anticipating that the newly formed Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government in the State, under the leadership of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, would be able to fulfill the aspirations of the indigenous people of the State by bringing strong laws to check influx.
When asked on the proposal of the Chief Minister that all the Cabinet Ministers should visit various district of the State every three months to revive the development process, Nongrum said, “This is only a proposal at the moment and we cannot make a comment on it right now. However, I will appreciate the government if this proposal is materialized.”
