Kidp victim rescued in joint operations in North Garo Hills, six arrested

Tura, Jan 5: A 63-year-old victim, who was kidpped by a gang of crimils from  Lakhipur in Goalpara district of   Assam, was rescued on Friday in a joint operation by the Assam and Meghalaya police.

The victim, identified as Sukur Ali of Folimari in Lakhipur, was kidpped by a group of crimils from the place on January 2 and brought to Meghalaya.

The victim was rescued this morning near Bajengdoba in Meghalaya.

Police arrested four miscreants, who were involved in the kidpping case. They arrested four belong to both Assam and Meghalaya.

 The four arrested from Garo Hills have been identified as Jandal Ch Sangma (20), Julius Ch Sangma (21), Brendil R Marak (22), Sang A Sangma (18). All four arrested were from the same village of Mansinggre. The victim was later taken to Goalpara to be reunited with his family.

The rescue of the 63-year-old was made possible after Assam police maged to b one of the kidppers in Assam. On interrogation, he revealed the mes of the others from his gang which helped the police to trace Ali, who was kept confined to Mansinggre and Rongk village under Bajengdoba PS in North Garo Hills.

"It was a joint search and rescue operation with Assam police that led to the arrest of four kidppers from NGH after two more were arrested from Assam. During the early morning operation, a few shots were fired though there were no injuries during the incident," said superintendent of police of North Garo Hills Dalton Marak.

Police recovered two country made revolver along with nine rounds of ammunition from the gang during the rescue operation.
