Suspect Nur Mohammad planned to extract Rs 25 lakh ransom, say police

GUWAHATI, Feb 4: The one and half-year-old boy Nihal, who was kidpped from his home in Guwahati, has been rescued by a team of Assam Police from Mankachar along the Assam-Meghalaya border area on Saturday,  28 hours since his ordeal began.

The boy, son of Majnur Alam Bhuyan, was kidpped from Hatigaon area in the city at around 7 am on Friday. The kidpper has been identified by the police as Noor Mohammad, who was living as a tent of Bhuyan.

The police team traced the location of the suspect and maged to rescue the child from Chalibhui Kumar Gati in Kalapani of Mankachar. The child was rescued from the house of one Sakirul Islam who is suspected to have connection with Mohammad.

The police said the kidpped child was kept in a small pit dug up and covered by hay inside a room of Islam’s house.

Both Mohammad and Islam are now absconding, said police, adding that the kidpper demanded a ransom of Rs 25 lakh from Bhuyan’s family.
