Killed NDFB(S) rebel identified

GUWAHATI, May 12: The NDFB(S) rebel killed on Wednesday by the Army in a joint Operation with the Assam Police, has been identified as Birbal Islary alias Banjai of Domgaon village Runikhata police station in Chirang district. He was a Senior cadre of Gossaigaon platoon and a close associate of Bidai.

This hardcore millitant was killed in a daring raid by the elite Army troops on a NDFB(S) camp in the dense Ripu Reserve Forest in Kokrajhar District. It has been learnt that the rebel group was planning to use this camp as a base to launch violent attacks on security forces and innocent civilians. The camp was spread out in an area of 100x100 metres and was well stocked to sustain for a long period. A large quantity of rations, tentage, blankets, solar panels and other war-like stores were recovered from the camp.

“Banjai was the eyes and ears of Bidai. He was mainly responsible for providing early warning to the Bidai group with regards to movement of security forces, provision of logistics and coordition with the link men and over ground workers,” an Army officail said.

“In addition he was deeply involved with the killing of innocent Adivasis on December 2014. He was also coorditing the extortion activities of the group,” he added.

The elimition of Banjai has brought a sense of relief in the peace loving citizens of the region who are fed up with the mindless violence perpetrated by NDFB(S) and other such terrorist groups.
