Kisan Kalyan Karyashala observed at Mairang

SHILLONG, May 3:   Member of District Council from Mairang constituency EL Nongrang has appreciated the significant role played by farmers in contributing to the economy of the State, while addressing a function observing Kisan Kalyan Karyashala at Mairang on Wednesday.

Nongrang said the economy of Meghalaya depends largely on the agricultural sector and people of the rural part of the State.

 “Agriculture is the backbone of the State not only in terms of employment but also by providing food to the people” said Nongrang, adding that the nation is fed through the hard work and toil of the farmers.

He said the Central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, wants to recognize and support the farmers for it is only through their hard work that the nation is fed and income is generated.

 The Kisan Kalyan Karyashala was organized by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) in collaboration with Department of Agriculture for the C&RD Block of Mawthadraishan and Mairang. The function saw the convergence of important stakeholders in the agricultural sector with the aim to educate the farmers about new techniques, method of agriculture and good agriculture practices.

During the event the farmers also got an opportunity to interact with agro scientists through the technical sessions.

During the Kisan Kalyan Karyashala programme a number of progressive farmers who have successfully implemented the agricultural practices were awarded by the chief guest.
