Kite Festival kicks off at Golaghat on colourful note

GOLAGHAT, January 29: Social and literary organization of Dekachang in collaboration with local people organized a Kite festival at Dhansiri Bali Chor here with a three-day programme.

The Kite Festival was started with flag hosting by its president Polash Loying which was followed by performing of State anthem by the students of Bokakhat Jatiya Vidyalaya in different languages.

The Kite Festival was formally iugurated by Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat, Anowarul Haque. Art competition, photography and Mistress Dekachang competition were held among the participants. In the kite festival more than 50 stalls from Manipur, Tripura, galand and SHG groups from the various district of Assam have been set up. A Kaziranga NGO has set up a water supply project model in the festival.

The president of its organization Polash Loying said that the festival will be concluded on January 31. He said “The purpose of the kite festival is to conserve the age-old tradition and introduce a new beginning through cultural reawakening that will benefit each and every one of us.

We hope that this festival will inculcate a sense of brotherhood among various communities of Golaghat district.”

Joint secretary Chandan Bori told reporters that the kites are not available in the market and the children now don’t know about to fly kites.

“The kite festival will bring a change to the people of Golaghat and children will learn how to fly kites,” he said.

As a part of the festival, a photography and kite flying competition will be held which will be followed by an interaction programme tomorrow. Deputy Director of Tourism, Hriday Ranjan Das, Dr Abhijit Rabha, CCF of  Karbi Anglong, Debojit Phukan, lecturer of D.R. College will take part in the programme.

In the third day of the festival, the prize distribution and open session will be held under the presidetship of Dinesh Gogoi, president of the organizing committee.

A souvenir, published on the occasion, will be released by poet Tulika Chetia Yein in the meeting.

PWD minister Ajanta Neog and former chairman of Golaghat Municipal Board will take part as a chief guest in the meeting. In the evening a colourful cultural programme will be held which would be iugurated by State Cultural Affairs minister Bismita Gogoi.
