Kite festival strengthens bond between people in Manipur

Imphal, February 6: A large number of people belonging to different ethnic communities gathered at the Telou Paokuan Chingol in Imphal to celebrate a kite festival.

 The festival was organized by Manipur Kite Club in association with Pari Puri Pukei Eco–tourism Centre, Telou with an aim to strengthen ties between people of the hills and the valleys.

 A variety of colourful kites soaring high in the sky were a huge attraction.

 "Like a kite we should fly together because we are like brothers and sisters. Though our colours, religion, language might be different from each other but we have been living together here in Manipur so like a kite we should always fly together," said L Ingocha, Chairman, Manipur Kite Club.

As a part of the celebrations, young artists from Meitei community performed the Lai haraoba dance.

 Cultural troupes from different tribes like Tangkhul, Chiru and Kuki performed their traditiol dances.

"The main objective of this kite festival is to bring love among different communities. I will organize this festival every year in the month of January. I tried for three days but due to students examition we maged everything in one day and we had cultural program, fashion parade, rock concert I am so happy especially the program was fully success," said Laishram Chingthangkhomba, President, Manipur Kite Club.

"Flying kite is one of our traditiol and I like it since childhood. It’s very enjoyable," said Nongmaithem Sanjoy, a participant.

Such festivals promote brotherhood and harmony among various tribes and communities in the region. (ANI)
