KMB chairman assures new strategy to clean up Kokrajhar town

KOKRAJHAR, July 21: The Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB) has taken fresh initiative to solve the various problems prevailing in Kokrajhar town.

During a press conference at Kokrajhar Basic Training Centre, Bishnu rzary, new chairman of the Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB) said that human activities create waste and waste had to be stored, collected, disposed and maged. So, the KMB had taken up a strategy to make Kokrajhar town free of garbage, reduction in number of stray animals around and solving other civic problems.

He said that the KMB had brought C. Srinivasan, a highly reputed expert from Tamil du, Vellore who trained around 200 students of MA, BA, HS, and HSLC in eight days during an awareness programme held on improving activities of municipal board in terms of Solid and Liquid Resource Magement (SLRM) in Kokrajhar town.

rzary said that in urban area, especially in a town like Kokrajhar, problems of solid waste magement needed priority. He said solid waste was generated by domestic households, commercial enterprises and healthcare institutions on the streets. He said that streets were used as dumping ground by people. He assured that the KMB would take serious note to solve the problems of draige, garbage, vehicles parking and cleaning Kokrajhar town.

rzary asserted that in KMB, there were 10 wards and 17 chairmen and wards commissioners in Kokrajhar town and detailed survey on draige systems, cal, garbage, and dustbins had already done and cleanliness work had started. He ensured that KMB would distribute two types of dustbins which would be green and red in colour to houses, shops, business, markets, offices and institutions and they had to pay Rs 3 per day for clearing the garbage. He also appealed to people to cooperate with the KMB in making the town clean.
