KMSS, BAYM protest against Axom Xatra Mahaxabha

JOYSAGAR, April 22: The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Sivasagar district committee and the Brihattar Asomiya Yuba Mancha (BAYM), Sivasagar district committee members, staged a sit-in protest for two hours in front of the DC’s office, Sivasagar on Saturday in protest against the controversial role of the Axom Xatra Mahaxabha  (AXM).

The leaders of the organizations said that the statements of  Axom Xatra Mahasabha leaders and Xatradhikar Janardan Devgoswami regarding the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 before the Joint Parliamentary Committee were against the sentiments of the indigenous Assamese people. The move of the Centre as well as the JPC was very reactionary and doubtful from the beginning and the proposed bill would create communal clashes and break the unity and harmony of the local people of Assam.

The organizations urged AXM leaders to review this sensitive matter again and not to take any move against the greater interest of the common people of the State. The Sivasagar District SC Students’ Union, the Sangrami Yuba-Chatra Parishad and Ujjani Asom Muslim Kalyan Parishad have also sharply criticized the role of Asom Satra Mahasabha.
