JOYSAGAR, May 5: The Sivasagar district committee of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) staged a sit-in for two-hour protest in front of the historic Rang Ghar at Joysagar in Sivasagar district today.
The KMSS leaders sharply vehemently opposed the Government’s move to allow private companies to look after the maintenance of historical monuments and heritage sites in Assam like the Rang Ghar, Kareng Ghar, Shiva Dol and Kaziranga National Park. Besides, the organization also criticized the BJP-led Assam Government for its various moves which were affecting the indigenous people of this land. KMSS leaders also opposed the UAEDCL authority’s initiative to hand over about 52 electricity subdivisions to private companies in Upper Assam recently. KMSS district president Meghnad Buragohain and secretary Lu-Sun Gohain led the protest and hundreds of members of the organization took part in it. Later the leaders submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Sivasagar DC.
