Knights Martial Arts Academy Shines in 9th National Vovinam Championship in Guwahati

Nagaon: Players of Knights Martial Arts Academy, Nagaon brought laurels to State by bagging 6 Gold, 19 Silver & 22 bronze medals in 9th National Vovinam Championship 2019, held from 1st July to 5th July at Bhogeswari Phukannoni Indoor Stadium, Guwahati. Total 41 Players from the Academy have participated representing Assam team who displayed superb presentation of martial arts.

Debangana Bhuyan Borah, Mallika Das, Sneha Borkakoti, Kamal Borah, Ivanan Sharma and Anurag Laskar bagged gold medals while other 29 players of the academy bagged Silver & Bronze respectively. Mallika das has been selected as 'BEST FIGHTER' in the Girls' category.

All the players are being trained under expert coaches of Knights Martial Art Academy namely Mr. Mintu Goswami and Mrinal Mahanta. On the other hand,Coach Mintu Goswami was awarded with 3rd Dan Black belt, coach Mrinal Mahanta with 2nd Dan Black Belt and Coach Rinkumoni Hazarika was with 1st Dan Black Belt during the tournament. Martial Art Grand Master Dr. Vishnu Sahai presented their Certificates.

Martial arts are codified systems and traditions of combat practiced for a number of reasons such as self-defense, military and law enforcement applications, competition, for physical, mental and spiritual development; as well as for entertainment or the preservation of a nation's intangible cultural heritage.

Although the term martial art has become associated with the fighting arts of East Asia, it originally referred to the combat systems of Europe as early as the 1550s. The term is derived from Latin and means "arts of Mars", the Roman god of war. Some authors have argued that fighting arts or fighting systems would be more appropriate on the basis that many martial arts were never "martial" in the sense of being used or created by professional warriors.
