Kohli gung-ho over BJP's prospects in Meghalaya

State in-charge general secretary predicts party’s good performance in 2018 Assembly polls

From A Correspondent
Shillong, July 22: BJP general secretary in-charge of Meghalaya lin Kohli on Saturday hinted at “political developments” in the next few months in the State.
“This election will be a surprise. You will see many things happening in a party in next two or three months,” Kohli told jourlists.
According to the BJP leader in-charge of Meghalaya, a lot of work that was preparatory in ture has not taken shape because the party has a plan for the Assembly election scheduled in 2018.
“We have already identified several candidates and the Congress is entitled under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi at the Centre and Dr Mukul Sangma in the State to believe that they are sweeping everything in the country and in the State,” Kohli added.
The BJP general secretary is in the State to attend the State Executive Committee meeting.
He also said that this attempt of trying to project the BJP as a commul party has existed for as long as the party has been in existence.
According to Kohli, there is a lot of attempt of to create false propaganda that the party is anti-Christian.
On the issue of cow vigilantism, Kohli said that Prime Minister rendra Modi had clearly stated that anyone trying to kill another human being in the me of cow protection is wrong and the States must deal with it strongly and firmly.
“We believe in ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’. We do not distinguish between a Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Parsi, Jew or any community. We believe the benefits of governce should go to the poorest to the poor,” Kohli said.
He also said that those who believe in development are not going to be misled by the false and lies being spread in the social media and by the “dirty tricks department” of the Congress party.
He also informed the media that when he visits the State again in August he will meet representatives from the Christian community
Kohli pointed out that free gas cylinders are being given away and none is being discrimited whether he or she is a Christian or Hindu.
“We see that people are creating false propaganda against the BJP because they fear that the politics of development will be preferred by the people of Meghalaya over the politics of corruption.
When asked on the recent statement of Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma that the regiol parties are conniving with the BJP, Kohli said by that standard Rahul Gandhi recently met the Chinese Ambassador and one can draw any inference from it.
“The same for Dr Mukul Sangma if he meets me somewhere and shake hands with me. This does not mean that both of us have an alliance. So meeting is one thing and having an understanding is another,” the BJP general secretary said.
Kohli also alleged that Sangma’s understanding is with power, how to stay in power and how to be in power. “He has no understanding with developments or interest in serving the people of Meghalaya. Otherwise, where is the medical college of Tura? Why there are no roads in Mendipathar? Bridges are still made of wood. These are all the responsibility of Dr Mukul Sangma as Chief Minister,” he said.
