Kokrajhar Government College observes foundation day

KOKRAJHAR, August 17: The foundation day of Kokrajhar Government College was observed on Tuesday with unfurling of the college flag by Kampa Borgayary, the deputy chief of BTC who is also the in-charge of Education. Borgoyary is also the president of the Board of Governors of Kokrajhar Government College.

The college celebrated the foundation day by laying the foundation stone of the multi-storey auditorium of the college through the deputy chief. This programme was followed by a career counseling programme on the theme ‘Defense services as a career’ along with an awareness programme on the theme of ‘anti-ragging’ organized by consultancy and career counseling cell and Anti-Ragging Cell in collaboration with Interl Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college. This programme was anchored by Dr. Ambeswar Phukon, Coorditor of IQAC of the college.

The career counseling programme was iugurated by Dr. Binoy Kr. Brahma, the Principal, Kokrajhar Government College. The chief counselor of the programme was Major B.P. Acharya of the 3rd Battalion of The Rajput Regiment, Kokrajhar Army Camp. The programme was attended by a large number of students and teachers along with Digambar rzary, the chairman of Nedan Foundation, NGO, Kokrajhar.

The next awareness programme on anti-ragging was delivered by the resource person Digambar rzary, chairman of Nedan Foundation, Kokrajhar. He spoke about the evolution of ragging as a social evil in the educatiol institutions of European countries where it has been completely elimited. He said that ragging existed in India despite the apex court prohibiting it, to become the third Asian country to do so. States like Maharashtra. Kartaka and Kerala have formally banned ragging. rzary said that ragging not only created a fear psychosis to weaken a student mentally, the act itself was a social crime and a gross instance of human rights violation.
