Kolkata hit-and-run case

Kolkata, Jan 17: Sambia Sohrab, who allegedly mowed down an Indian Air Force officer and injured another army man with his speeding sports utility vehicle, was on Sunday sent to police custody for 14 days by a city court. Amid tight security, Sambia was presented before the chief metropolitan magistrate’s court, with police slapping various charges including murder, crimil conspiracy, attempt to murder and destruction of evidence. The defence counsel pleaded for bail, while the prosecution sought police custody for 14 days. After hearing both sides, the judge rejected the bail plea and sent him to police custody. The prosecution has alleged that Sambia was drunk while he was driving the car on January 13. (IANS)
