KPC condemns attack on jourlist in Khwirabari

KOKRAJHAR, June 19: Kokrajhar Press Club (KPC) today strongly condemned the attack on jourlist Prasanta Kumar at Khwirabari in Udalguri district by unidentified  miscreants on Thursday night and demanded that the culprits behind the incident should be brought to book as early as possible.

 The president of the KPC A. Kr. Basumatary said the attempt of killing the local reporter of an Assamese daily at Khwirabari by unknown miscreants was not only attack on working jourlist but also attack on the fourth pillar of the democracy.  He demanded that the government of Assam should act tough on the elements that are working against the interest of jourlist. “The district administration should find out the culprits involved in the incident and bring them to book,” he said, adding that the jourlist fraternity of the State will never bow down under the pressure of militants.

He also demanded that the government should bear the medical expenses of jourlist attacked by the miscreants besides instituting judicial inquiry.

 Meanwhile, the Chief of BTC, Hagrama Mohilary also vehemently condemned the attack on jourlist in Khwirabari and said the culprits involved in the incident must be brought to book.
