Shillong, Aug 25: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) Central Body on Thursday brushed aside the allegations that members of the Laitumkhrah unit of the Union have demanded Rs 5 lakh from Karu Sindhu Ghosh who possess a plot of land in the city.

It may be mentioned that as per the police website on Wednesday Ghosh lodged a complaint that the KSU members picked him up from Laitumkhrah Bazar on Tuesday and subsequently took him to their office at Laitumkhrah where they demanded Rs 5 lakh as fine for possessing land at Demseiniong, Shillong.

The KSU president Laitunkhrah unit Silvestre Marwein, in this connection has clarified that the Union does not even have an office as claimed in the FIR.

A brother of the complaint, said, “I was surprised to see that my brother had filed an FIR against the KSU and when contacted him informed that he knows nothing about any FIR filed against the KSU.” Informing that the family members of the complaint later went to the Laitumkhrah Police Station seeking a copy of the FIR, he said, “When we received the copy we were surprised to see that even though the father’s me and addresses were correct however the sigture was not his and there was no phone number and this clearly shows that someone else have filed a fake FIR in my brother’s me.” Meanwhile, KSU central body, publicity secretary S Lyngdoh, said, “We are surprised that the police have registered the FIR without even verifying the address or the phone number of the complaint.”

The KSU have also urged the District Administration and police department to first conduct a primary inquire into any complaint especially when it concerns the Union. “We advice the DC that in future he should verify first the complaints being sent to his office before forwarding the complaints to the police department,” he said. Stating that the in-charge of Laitumkhrah police station has informed them that after conducting an inquiry the FIR was found to be fake, he said, “Even the police have revealed that it’s a fake FIR. It is  now their responsibility to find the real culprit who filed the FIR.”
