KSU reiterates its demand for Ranikor sub-division

From A Reporter

SHILLONG, Aug 11: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) South West Khasi Hills (SWKH) district unit has clarified that its protest against the setting up of an administrative unit at Ranikor is not against development, but the area that has Community and Rural Development (C&RD) block desperately needs to be upgraded into a civil sub-division.

The organisation also stated that the iuguration of the administrative unit by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday at Ranikor is an insult to the people of the area.

KSU SWKH president Forwardman Nongrem said the students’ body will not disturb the functioning of the administrative unit but will continue to demand the creation of a civil sub-division for the area.

Questioning the government, he asked, “How can the government upgrade other C&RD blocks into civil sub-divisions while for Ranikor block the government brings in an administrative unit?” The KSU leader said that this is the question that needs to be answered by MLA of Ranikor constituency Martin M Dango.

He further stated that the KSU will also continue to demand from the State government to set up a C&RD block at Wahkaji-Umdohlun.

The KSU leader also urged both the MLAs of the area – Martin M. Dango and Rowell Lyngdoh, MLA Mawkyrwat constituency – to put pressure on the government to remove the problems faced by the people of the area.
