KSU set to have new leaders in 2017-2020

SHILLONG, Feb 9: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) is set to have new faces as leaders for the 2017-2020 periods. It’s apparently clear that the post of President will go to Lambokstar Marngar, Vice President to Shemphang Lyngdoh Mawphlang and the General Secretary post to Dold V Thabah.

The fact came from The KSU Election Committee room on Thursday that declares that there are no contestants for the posts, thus marking the end of the Daniel Khyriem and Agustar Jyrwa five years era. Interestingly, the two prominent leaders of the powerful student body never desired for a second term. It is learnt that 11 other executive members of the powerful student body will not seek for the post that they held in the past five years.

There are 15 other contestants for the various posts varying from Asst General Secretary, Organisaing Secretary, Office Secretary, Education Secretary, and Publicity Secretary. The elections to this post will be held at Dim Hall Shillong on February 11th, 2017. Around 400 units from the length and breadth of Khasi-Jaintia Hills will be part of the election process.

However, talks doing the rounds are on whether outgoing KSU leadership has followed the grooming process of the young low profile students within the present set up. The KSU is known to groom upcoming leaders before taking the mantle. The General Secretary of the KSU, Augustar  Jyrwa said, “The upcoming leadership will take the onus in them to push all the issues taken up by the Union in the past three decades”. “The baton will be passed and they will not dilute the issues related to influx, the opposition to the railway project, the uranium mining issue and of course all issues pertaining to protection of the Hynniewtrep race”.
