KVK Sonitpur distributes soil health cards at Chariduar

Tezpur, September 11: In an attempt to sensitize the farming community about the importance of soil testing and future cultivation to be taken up by the farmers by its soil test value, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur organized the second awareness-cum-soil health card distribution programme of the month at Chariduar on Sunday with the active cooperation from a non-government organization, Mahila Sakti Kendra, Balipara.

The KVK scientists with the help of the NGO collected soil samples from the remote villages of the locality and alyzed it in its laboratory at KVK, Sonitpur,  pam  and prepared 253 cards. In his welcome address, Dr. Promod Ch. Deka, Programme Coorditor, KVK, Sonitpur highlighted the importance of soil testing and subsequent crop cultivation. He also disclosed that since December, 2015, the KVK has prepared more than 1,600 soil health cards and distributed to the farmers.

Attending the programme as chief guest, Padma Hazarika, MLA of Sootea, said that farmers should get their due recognition in the society. He also said that agriculture was the best way to get rid of the burning unemployment problem. He thanked the KVK people and the NGO for organizing such a sensitization and soil health card distribution programme. Earlier, Arifa Momtaz Begum, SMS, KVK, Sonitpur explained the purpose of the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by BK Neog, Anga Sarma, Sarmistha Borgohain of KVK, Sonitpur and Mahila Sakti Kendra, Balipara officials. Dhruva Jyoti Das of Mahila Sakti Kendra, Balipara anchored the meeting. The meeting was attended by more than 350 farmers of the area.
