Lajong, 3 Star in semis, OILFC out

GUWAHATI, Sept 25: Shillong Lajong Football club and 3 Star, Nepal entered into the semi fils of the 64th Bordoloi Trophy Soccer Championship drawing their last group match at the Nehru stadium here today. The match between the two sides, held under floodlight, ended 1-1 draw.

It was the last match in group ‘A’ and three teams-3 Star, Shillong Lajong FC and OILFC were on the same spot after the end of this game collecting five points each. However it was better goal differences that helped Lajong and 3 Star to move into the last four from this group.

Both the sides knew it very well that a draw in the last game will be enough for them to earn a berth in the semi fils. However the game was well contested and either side could easily win the game unless wasted too much opportunities.3 Star even wasted a pelty in the first half which was taken by Bimal Gharti Magor.

Shillong Lajong took the lead in the 27th minutes through Milan Basumatari. Milan got the ball after 3 Star’s goalkeeper Allon blocked a nice shot and ball returned to him. The opportunist striker pushed it into the net.

3 Star scored the equalized in the 61 minutes through Niranjan khadka who headed in a nice cross.

Earlier OILFC, in the first game of the day, defeated Barak FC of galand 3-0. Jayanta Basumatari opened the account in the 6th minutes while Mintu Boro added two more goals in the 50 and78 minutes of the game respectively. The score line would be 4-0 if bin Rava didn’t waste a pelty in the early stage of the game.
