Lajong to begin new edition grassroots festival

FROM A REPORTER
SHILLONG, Dec 28: The Shillong Lajong FC has announced the start of the brand new edition of the “Lajong Grassroots Clinics” commencing from December 29 onwards across various localities in and around Shillong under the watchful eyes of Youth Coaches mely, Alison Kharsyntiew and Seibor Sa. The Lajong technical staff will also be present in all venues during the festival with the aim to scout promising young talent. In the previous edition of the grassroots clinics, the club reached over 1,000 children, which was conducted across many localities of the city and small towns in Meghalaya. However, in this new edition, the Club’s intention remains the same that is to provide every child with an opportunity to learn and develop skills through organized football activities, matches, and coaching. Head of Youth Academy, Gumpe Rime said, “This is a continuation of the initiative which we took last year. It was great to see the response we received last time. This year we will visit the places that we were not able to cover last year and our aim is it reach out to as many young children as possible and it will be a continuous process.” The selected kids from each location will then be invited for the Grand Grassroots Festival to be held on January 19, 2017 in Polo Ground Shillong and will go through another selection process before being recruited to the Shillong Lajong FC Academy.
