Lakhimpur jolted by earthquake on Wednesday night

LAKHIMPUR: An earthquake jolted Lakhimpur as well as Dhemaji, Biswanath, Sonitpur and Majuli at 1.45 am on Wednesday night. As per sources, the epicentre of the earthquake with 6.1 magnitudes was about 40 km south-east of Along and 180 km south-east of Itanagar, the State capital of Arunachal Pradesh. The driving distance between the place of the earthquake’s epicentre and North Lakhimpur, the district headquarter of Lakhimpur, is around 394 km. The jolts were felt for more than a 30-second period. However, no severe damage and casualty caused by the earthquake was reported in Lakhimpur.
