'Land acquisition  a hurdle in  Shillong-Tamabil Road construction'

SHILLONG, April 2: PWD (Roads) Minister Prestone Tynsong on Monday said that there are some hurdles so far as land acquisition at 3rd Mile in respect of the widening of the almost 100 kms road from Shillong to Tamabil, funded by (JICA). “Since the road will have to pass through the reserve forest situated in the area and not along the existing road, there are some hurdles,” Tynsong said adding that he will immediately convened a meeting with the forest department, the PWD and other concern departments to sort out this problem. Informing that the total expenditure for the entire project is more than Rs 1000 crore, he said “The portion from Pynursla to Tamabil has all been filized, that also includes the bridge at Dawki from Shnongpdeng to Darang.”

He informed that while the road from Umshyrpi to Mylliem point (7 Mile) will be a four lane road to be constructed by the Road Transport Ministry, the double lane road will be from the Mylliem point onwards to Tamabil.

Tynsong further said that he will also give direction to the department to make corrections of the spelling mistakes in many signboards and not to give new mes.

Meanwhile, Tyngsong said that the people in the rural areas prefer the CGI Sheets scheme compared to the Housing Scheme because in the CGI Sheets scheme loan system is not involve.

“I persolly feel that this housing scheme is not that effective here in the city and in the rural areas the CGI sheet is more feasible since people in the rural area always have land with them,” he said.
