Land acquisition compensation fund allegedly siphoned, Jorhat Police under scanner

Jorhat, June 11: Serious allegations have been leveled against the police of Jorhat district for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices by compromising with the accused persons only for bribe. According to sources, Umesh Hazarika of Mudoijan Dhekiani Gaon under Teok police station in Jorhat district lodged a complaint before the Superintendent of Police, Jorhat, Amanjeet Kaur on May 16, alleging that one Dulal Chandra Das of Teok Telia Gaon allegedly siphoned off Rs.17 lakh released in favour of him (Umesh Hazarika) for the acquisition of his landed property situated at Chaudung Gaon under Teok Revenue circle in the district. He also alleged that some government officials of the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner’s office, along with the officials of Teok revenue circle office, were involved with the scam. But after filing the complaint, police have not taken up any step in this regard. Police have not even registered a case against the accused person. When contracted, Officer in-Charge of Teok Police station, Amrit Singh said that he had not received any information in the matter. “I do not know about the case and have not received any complaint in this regard,” he said. On the other hand, showing the written complaint submitted before the SP, Jorhat, the complaint Umesh Hazarika said, “This is my complaint and the office of the SP, Jorhat received it on May 16 and sent it to Teok police station for inquiry but police have not taken up any steps against the accused person as yet.”
