Land for designated protest area soon: CM Pema Khandu

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday assured to provide land for a designated ‘protest’ area for the organisations to hold protest in the state capital with toilet, water, electricity and shed facilities.

Khandu’s assurance came in the backdrop of the reservations expressed by several organizations over allotment of the land near the Tennis Court here, to the BJP party for construction of its permanent office.

The tennis court inside the Indira Gandhi Park was the designated area for staging protests and holding dharnas by the organisations in the state capital. Khandu while attending the foundation laying ceremony and bhumi pujan for the BJP office on Monday said the government is not opposed to any protest culture and said he appreciates that protest is a part and parcel of democracy.

The Chief Minister said that the concerns expressed by organisations were genuine. The foundation was laid by BJP General Secretary (Org) incharge of North East Ajay Jamwal in presence of state BJP President Tapir Gao, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and other council of ministers including party MLAs. The Chief Minister thanked Jamwal for his support for the party office and the Bhawan Nirman Committee led by Gao and Tani Loffa for acquiring the land.

Calling the day as historic, Khandu said the building would not be an individual’s property but wuld be dedicated for the party’s cause. Khandu further said the party office would be build using funds through contribution from well wishers and party’s own sources and he contributed Rs 20 lakhs from his personal means for the construction of the building.
