Landslides disrupt surface communications in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, April 24: Haflong, the district HQ of Dima Hasao has been cut off from the rest of the state as both the Rail and road communications are disrupted due to landslides in many locations triggered by torrential downpour occurred during the last one week in the district.

The rail communication disrupted as approximate 50 metre of railway track washed away in between Jatinga Lampur and New Harangajao railway stations. The officials from railway rushed to the spot and started the restoration work. In the mean time the railway has suspended train services between Lumding and Silchar. As the rain continues, the restoration work has also been hampered.

The road communication disrupted in between Haflong—Silchar due to heavy landslides at seven locations— near Durbin Tila, Miyunkro, Harangajao etc.

Movement of traffic also halted on Haflong –Mahur –Maibang (NH 54 E) due to landslides near Mahur and Jatinga etc.

Commutation also affected on Diyungmukh-Dehangi-Haflong road following landslides near Lower Haflong and Gujung etc. The PWD has deployed machineries to restore the communication but the District Disaster Magement Authority informed that all the heavy vehicles are restricted to ply through Dima Hasao district as a precautiory measures.

The Silchar bound Purbattar Samparkranti Express which was derailed yesterday in between Dittakcherra and Bandarkhal was safely sent to Silchar on Sunday morning. The passengers who were stranded here at New Haflong were provided with food by railway authority. The General Mager, N F Railway along with railway officials was supervising the restoration work at spot.

Meanwhile the Dima Hasao District Administration requested the entire DDMA line department to be vigil and remain prepared to face any eventualities which may arise due to incessant rains in the district.
