Langting residents demand foot overbridge

From a Correspondent

Haflong, March 6: People of Langting are forced to cross at least four pairs of railway tracks in absence of foot overbridge at Langting railway station, even taking the risk of their lives, alleged conscious citizens of Langting. At least six or seven villages having population of several hundred are located at the other side of the Langting Railway Station and the railway authority failed to provide any foot over bridge at Langting which was being demanded repeatedly, in addition to stoppage of trains running through Dima Hasao.

In absence of the much needed foot over bridge, not only the citizens but students also are the worst sufferers as they have to attend their schools and colleges by crossing the railway lines. Sometimes it is also observed that children, elderly persons and even women cross the tracks under trains which remain at Langting station for long hours. Talking to the media, a citizen of Langting said they had submitted a memorandum to the General Mager of N F Railway detailing their grievances last year but these remain unheard as result of which they felt it necessary to send a reminder first and if the Railway authority failed to understand the gravity of the situation even after the reminder, then they would be bound to go for democratic agitation soon.
