Left organisation take out rally in support of strike

SILCHAR, Sept 1: As a part of their massive campaign to make the September 2 dawn to dusk bandh successful, left parties, INTUC, CITU, AITUC, AIUTUC, AICCTU, TUCC and EWTCC, today held a meeting which was preceded by joint rally. As pointed out earlier, the general strike has been called across the country. It therefore remains to be seen how common people respond to the call. After the meeting at rsingtola ground here in the evening, a rally was brought out which moved through the main streets of the town and converged at the place from where it origited.

 The demands, 13 in all, circulated through leaflets referred to the PDS and its total streamlining for making it free from corrupt practices. The anti labour Bill as amended has to be scrapped and all the workers of unorganized sectors have to be provided social security. Every labour has to be paid minimum monthly pay of Rs.15,000. Trade union registration should be completed within 45 days as per ILO guidelines. Regularization of the services of Anganwadi, ASHA and midday meal workers has to be given effect to.

 Contract labour system is to be abolished and temporary workers given permanent postings. Their salaries have to be at par with those of regular workers. Disinvestment in tiolized sector has to be stopped and FDI in drug industry, defence, small scale industries and railways as well as insurance is ucceptable. Corporatization of post and telegraph as well as port has to be cancelled and a Bill in the overall interests of street vendors should be ected. Silchar-Lumding BG as well as Silchar-Saurashtra highway are to be opened soon.
