JORHAT, Feb 10: A leopard along with her two grown-up cubs are killing domestic animals since February 3 at Habi Chunk, Mission Hospital compound, Mahendra gar open air jail, Mission Patty, Sukapha gar and areas of Jorhat Military Station, for which the forest department placed a cage on Friday evening at the premises of Habichuk funeral ground which is thickly covered by bushes and trees, informed Tonkeswar Gayan, a forest official from Jorhat Forest division on Friday.
In Bijoygar, there is an abandoned plot of land with 100 wild trees and bushes where the leopards are suspected to be taking shelter since a couple of months. They come out in the evenings in search of food and take away pets like goats, cow and dogs from the nearby areas. The Forest Department has placed a cage but to no avail. Panic has gripped the people of the area. People remain indoors in the evenings and any movement is first reported to the department concerned. Within a day or two the leopard will be caught, assured a Forest Department official.
