JORHAT, May 30: A female leopard was hacked to death by local people of Holiagaon, Rowriah under Jorhat Forest division, after it attacked three members of a family, including a minor, informed forest sources on Wednesday. Though the locals of Rowriah Holiagaon and its adjacent areas had informed the Forest department about the terror unleashed by the female leopard since several weeks, no action was allegedly taken to capture the leopard. The leopard on Tuesday evening attacked three members of a family who were coming to Rowriah Holiagaon from Mariani to meet their relatives. The irate locals then attacked and hacked the leopard to death. It is suspected that the leopard had come out of the char and tea garden areas. The carcass was later handed over to the Forest department. The injured were identified as Puneswar Phukan, Bonti Phukan and Geeta Phukan, a minor. All are undergoing treatment at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital and are stated to be out of danger, said JMCH sources here.
