Letter of intent to PMAY-U beneficiaries distributed

KOKRAJHAR, Nov 23: The Letter of Intent (LOI) to the Prime Minister Awas Yoja (PMAY-Urban) beneficiaries for urban area was distributed at a function held at Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA) indoor stadium on Thursday. Organized by the Urban Development department of BTC, the Minister of Forest and WPT&BC, Pramila Rani Brahma ceremonially distributed the LOI to the beneficiaries.

In his brief address, the Council Head of the Department (CHD), Urban Development, Binda Sargiary said the PMAY scheme had been introduced for the economically weaker families and the beneficiaries would get this advantage till 2022. He said 2,554 beneficiaries had been selected in Kokrajhar district, including 410 of Gossaigaon subdivision. He said the PMAY (Urban) would cover 42 towns of Assam and each beneficiary would get Rs. 2 lakh for construction of PMAY house, of which Rs. 1,50,000 would be borne by the Centre and Rs. 50,000 by the State while the beneficiary would spend Rs. 99,000 on his own.

He also said the beneficiaries would receive Rs. 50,000 in first instalment, Rs. 60,000 in second and third instalment and Rs. 30,000 in 4th instalment respectively. He further said the beneficiaries must fix the exact location based on longitude and latitude.

Minister Pramila Rani Brahma said the PMAY scheme was an ambitious project of the Prime Minister for the poor people of the country. She said the PMAY, which was known as Indira Awas Yoja (IAY), was launched only for the rural BPL families but nowadays the scheme had been extended to urban areas. She added that 1,102 beneficiaries under Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB) and 583 under Kokrajhar Development Authority (KDA) would get PMAY houses. She also said the beneficiaries must complete the construction of house as they would get the amount in their account and could not blame others if it was half done.

Brahma cautioned the beneficiaries not to pay bribe to touts saying that certain agents could take advantage in the me of official procedure. Most of the time, the IAY houses were seen to be half done and there had been reports of irregularities in the construction of IAY houses due to middlemen and corrupt agents, she said and called upon the beneficiaries to be aware of fraud circle and to inform the authority.

BTC EM of Urban Development, Doneswar Goyary said that he received some reports of taking bribe in the me of selecting mes for PMAY houses in certain wards. He said action would be taken if someone was proved to be involved in such practice. He said the chairman of the KMB would supervise the construction of PMAY house in every ward and the Deputy Commissioner would look into the proper implementation. He also hoped that the beneficiaries would properly utilize the fund and complete the houses in due time.

The programme, which was anchored by the chairman of the KMB, Bishnu rzary, was also addressed by BTC EM Rajib Brahma, Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Niranjan Baruah and attended by chairman of Kokrajhar Development Authority, DD rzary and other higher officials.

MORIGAON: The distribution of Letter of Intent (LoT) to the PMAY-HFA for urban people was formally iugurated by MLA Ramakanta Deuri at Morigaon District Library on Thursday. In presence of Deputy Commissioner Hemen Das, chairperson of MMB, Archa Bordoloi,  and ADC Ra Bora, 652 beneficiaries were given Letter of Intent.
