Keep your promises

Usually it is observed that ministers make promises but whether or not the promises are fulfilled they never care about it. One such promise that the present chief minister made after he assumed office was to convince the union government to seal the Assam-Bangladesh border to prevent further infiltration of the foreign nationals into Assam and its adjoining states.

Needless to add, this burning issue of infiltration has been remaining a Pandora's Box for Assam which has been plaguing the state and nobody knows how long. Then what is the use of an NRC? As if the fact of infiltration was not enough, the CAB proposed by the BJP government added salt to the injury. Had BJP been successful in making the Bill a law, the efficacy of NRC would have been meaningless.

Yet another odd-looking issue that blackens the image of the state ruling dispensation is – cow-lifting and transporting to Bangladesh. Lack of seriousness in ending the act of cow-smuggling in the region by the government is palpable. Else, the cow-smugglers would not have been able to widen their tentacles in helping Bangladesh earn fabulous foreign exchange by the exports of products like beef, hides and bones at the cost of India. Will our government ensure materialization of the promises it made instead of making promises only for the sake of promises to befool people.
