Pakistan's contradictory stand

Immediately after the air strike by Indian Air Force on the hubs of the Pakistan sponsored terrorists mainly on the camps of Jaish-e-Mohammed, it seemed that a war with Pakistan was inevitable. But by degrees, the escalation of tension between the two neighbouring countries calmed down, although the situation is still simmering. The interesting point to note is – Pakistan's Prime-minister Imran Khan's proposal for peace. Mr. Khan understands it fully well that in the event of a war, Pakistan would suffer heavy loss. Obviously, in military-might India is well ahead of Pakistan. Whatever might be the cause, Imran Khan's peace proposal appears to be mere a lip service and to be sure, Pakistan's pulse is difficult to be felt. We now find manifestation of what we contend. It is reported that Pakistan is preparing for a war with a huge gathering of army and other military paraphernalia like Tanks and Artilleries in the border. As to the arrests of the 44 terrorists, one has reason to be suspicious. The explosion of a grenade thrown on a crowd in a crowded Jammu Bus Stand, killing one and injuring several others by terrorists of Pakistan is a case in point. We have to wait and watch, how Narendra Modi led Union government would react. We feel a tough action on Pakistan is the only option left for India.

Implement women's reservation in legislature

Formality of celebrating International Women Day is fulfilled every year on 8th March but without any attitude-change towards women which though being 50-per cent of population, get only a minute representation in law-making system. Many political parties cry for reservation on man-made aspects like religion and cast evidently for vote-bank politics, but oppose reservation to women which still remain dominated section of society created by nature in our male-dominated political system. Even Islamic world including Pakistan and many other democratic countries have adopted women's reservation in legislature.

Election Commission formula to make it compulsory for every political party to give at least 33 per cent party tickets to women may be immediately enforced as an interim measure, till Indian women get their legitimate right for 33 per cent state-wise reservation in legislature. Moreover, to prevent wives or other relations being misused as proxy of male politicians, there should be a system whereby name or photo of husband or any other relation may not be permitted in election campaigns of women candidates. At a time when women quota in panchayats and local bodies is being increased to 50 per cent from earlier 33 per cent, it is meaningless to resist 33 per cent reservation to women in legislature. Rather there should be uniform 33 pere cent reservation for women at all stages from civic bodies to Parliament.
