Wastage of food

Considering large-scale wastage of food items in marriage celebrations, some legislation like that of Guest Control Order, 1960 should be there. Even Afghanistan took measures to curb such mega expenses on marriage celebrations. Apart from preventing huge wastage of food, such steps will automatically check ugly show of status through money in marriages which in present era is becoming root cause of female foeticide because of money required to be spent in marriages of daughters.

Textile flying squad

We have been noting with a sense of grave concern that many unscrupulous businessmen of Assam with a view to earning more profit bring low-cost power loom Gamosa from outside the state in Rongali Bihu festival every year ignoring hand woven local Gamosa which is the symbol of Assamese culture. It is a fact that the administrative machinery of government of Assam is always aware of this evil design of the unscrupulous businessmen whose only obsession is earning more at the cost of the prestige of Assam. The bureaucrats concerned of Assam must shoulder the responsibility for their deliberate lackadaisical notion towards this vital issue that directly hits our poor weavers. As a result, we find that this issue of ignorance of our Assamese Gamosa has become a yearly ritual whenever Rongali Bihu arrives. Of course, Government of Assam this year formed the flying squad to detect the selling of such power-loom Gamosa brought from other state. But we are surprised to note that the members of the flying squad are manhandled by some of the roadside vendors, the report of which is published in a section of the press. One person is, meanwhile, apprehended by the police, the report further adds. We like to suggest that hence forth, Dispur should send circular to all the district headquarters asking them to take stern action against whosoever is found to have sold such power-loom Gamosa.

Bubul Das' resignation

The former fishery minister as well as the ex-president of Morigaon district committee of AGP Bubul Das resigned from the party ahead of the second phase Lok Sabha election as a mark of protest to the Constitutional (Amendment) Bill (CAB) and joined in the Congress party. Now he asked people to vote for the Congress party in LS poll to be held on April 18. I want to ask him if he could prove himself that he is dead against the CAB and therefore he joined in the Congress party. Had he sympathized with the AGP, he would not have resigned from the party ahead of the Lok Sabha election. Instead of joining in the Congress, he would have protested the CAB by staying in the AGP. I would like to ask the minister: "Do you think that people will see eye-to-eye with you in the LS election? Sir, people are very much conscious about electing their party. They know whom to vote for?"
