How far can we be pushed?: Letters to The EDITOR

How far can we be pushed?

It is demoralizing that even after three decades of altruistic service to the nation, the Kargil War veteran Md Sana Ullah was declared as a "foreigner" by the Foreigner's Tribunal.

Md Sana Ullah, who is a dweller of Guwahati was arrested from his residence in Satgaon by the cops after the declaration and was taken to a detention facility in Goalpara.

This abhorrent proceeding befell on him although he had joined the Indian Army in 1987. He also received a President's certificate in 2014 when he was promoted. Post his retirement from the Army, he joined the Assam Police and continued to serve the nation.

He had also submitted all of his legal documents to prove to the authorities that he is an Indian citizen, in spite of which the tragic incident took place.

About 44 people have seemingly killed themselves thus far, as their names were not included in the National Register of Citizens last year.

For many the ordeal began when they were born as Muslims.

Will our beliefs, doctrines and religion now be the premise of our citizenship in a profane and secular country like India?

Incorrigible Pakistan

Pakistan is incorrigible in the truest sense of the term. On one hand, due to exploitation of the poor mass and embezzlement of money by those at the helm of affairs in the successive governments of Pakistan since their independence, the economy of the country is worsening with each passing day, one the other hand, despite its avowed declaration that it would stop the terrorist activities from its soil, Pakistan keeps on fuelling terrorism for PoK. Incidentally, the terrorism also is a factor behind the breakdown of its economy. Barring China, Pakistan is isolated by all other world powers, still the ill-famed country keeps on showing all the bad signs of intolerance towards religions of other countries. The latest sign we could notice destruction of the centuries-old Guru Nanak Palace – Sikh shrine in Pakistan's Narowal. Being unable to defeat India militarily, the pugnacious country is leaving no stone unturned to destabilize India. Mumbai, Pulbama attacks are cases in point. Cornered by all the super powers of the world, overtly they declare banning of the terrorists groups operating from its soil, but covertly Pakistan is nurturing the terrorists with the sole objective of carrying out the subversive activities in India, including killing of innocent people forgetting lessons India taught it from time to time. That apart, Pakistan is up in arms to economically destabilize India by floating fake currency notes in Indian market printed in Pakistan.
