Bongaigaon, September 4: “An illegal sex racket was going on in the New Bongaigaon colony area in the abandoned and sealed railway quarter,” claimed the local people of Railway colony on Sunday after bbing two women allegedly involved in this racket.

Few days ago, some local people of Central Colony of New Bongaigaon Railway colony noticed some suspicious people in an abandoned quarter (Quarter No 404/B, Central Colony).  A local resident said that the people of the area went to the quarter to enquire. “But the boys and girls in the quarter threatened us and then we informed the Railway administration. On Saturday workers of the Railway administration arrived in the quarter and again sealed it. The people living in this quarter had fled before arrival of the workers of the Railway administration. It remained closed for the night. But on Sunday morning, two girls again came to the quarter. Then we local people bbed them and handed them over to police. We found their activity very suspicious and we suspect this to be a sex racket,” said the local resident.

On the other hand, police said that this was not the case of prostitution. “It is just a matter of illegal occupying an abandoned railway quarter. “These two girls were living in that quarter since a long time. Suddenly when Railway administration sealed the quarter, some of their clothes remained inside it. They came to the quarter today to collect their clothes only,” IC, New Bongaigaon Police outpost said.

The local people claimed that there were other quarters in the New Bongaigaon Railway colony where movement of suspicious people had been noticed. “As per our knowledge, a person called Lambu is operating this racket. We appeal to the Railway administration and police to take necessary action against such racket,” local people said.

A group of local people gheraoed the house of Lambu in the colony on Sunday demanding that such alleged activities in railway colonies should be stopped immediately.
