Local people hinder construction work of concrete wall of Army camp

Tezpur, Jan 16: A tense situation prevailed at Missamari area under Missamari Police Station in Sonitpur district following obstruction of construction work of a concrete boundary wall of Missamari Army by the local people of Tantshal village. The people alleged that the Army had forcefully occupied public miyadi patta land to build the walls around the army campus. According to sources, local people of Tantshal village area obstructed the construction work of boundary wall of the Army camp located at Missamari since the Army had allegedly forcefully taken the land to set up the walls around the army campus near PWD road which was under mutation of public miyadi patta land.

The people of Tantshal Village are using the surface which passes from Rangapara to Missamari Tantshal village via foothill connecting road and as per the norms, the area around 22.50 metre besides the surface cannot be occupied. People have questioned how the Army could resort to illegal action to construct the boundary wall adjacent to the road surface. Local people of Tantshal village have already informed the matter to the Thelamara Revenue Circle and accordingly, the Thelamara Revenue Circle demarking the position, directed the Army to construct the wall at a 15-metre distance from the road. But, setting aside the directive of the Thelamara Revenue Circle, the Army is allegedly carrying out the construction work. Later, Tantshal village people resented the approach of the army and obstructed the construction works for which serious altercation took place between the Project Engineer and the local people.

 In protest against this illegal construction, Sanjoy Doimari, secretary of Tantshal village, Tarun Chandra th, former member of Jia Gabharu Gaon Panchayat, Riju Basumatary, secretary of Tantshal Village Development Committee and Suren Karmakar, member of Jia Gabharu Gaon Panchayat, submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam.

 Local people of Tantshal village, while reacting on the issue said, “We have condemned the action taken by the defense troops of Missamari and it was very unfortute that the army even did not bother to listen to the order of the State machinery. We have made up our minds that in no way the construction works will be allowed and for that we will knock every door to get justice since the Army is violating norms in every manner.”
