Lokomancha organises folk songs programme

Silchar, April 18: The newly formed Barak Upothakya Lokomancha will organise two day long programme on folks songs on May 23 and 24 here to marks its journey. The Lokomancha was recently formed in a bid to preserve the cultural heritage of the valley.

  The programme will be held at district library auditorium. The president of the organisation Sarif-Uz-Zaman Laskar said that they had invited the artistes from the neighbouring country Bangladesh. “We are expecting the presence of a few renowned folk artistes from Bangladesh in the programme, besides the singers from different corners of the valley. Our motive is to provide platform to the folk artistes and highlight the folk culture of the valley,” he added.

  Laskar said that with the passage of time, the traditiol folk culture of the valley is sinking into oblivion and their intention to preserve it. “It is difficult, but not impossible,” Laskar added.

  He further informed that a unimous decision was taken at the executive committee meeting of the Lokomancha to hold a five day long week-long fair from September 25 to 29 here. The meeting was attended by Santoshree Shome, Pradip Paul, Manoranjan Malakar, Sahab Uddin Laskar, Pradip Das, Arundhoti Duttaroy, among others.
