Losing start for Assam in Mushtaq Ali trophy

GUWAHATI, Jan 2: Assam made a poor start in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Cricket Tourment courtsey to their batsmen’s poor performance and a nice spell from Team India discard Irfan Pathan (5-13). The side lost their iugural tie in the championship to Baroda by a huge margin of 49 runs at Vadodora today.

'Top six batsmen Pallav Kumar. Das (01), Sarupam Purkayastha (04), KB Arun Karthick (09), Avijit Singha Roy (01), Amit Verma (06) and Gokul Sharma (00) failed to take their score to double figure. However little resistance from Syed Mohammed (42no) Amit Sinha (17) and Abu Nechim Ahmed (20), in the lower end,  made the total little respectable. Invited to bat, Baroda piled up 164-8 in 20 overs. Bulk of the runs came from the bat of Kedar Devdhar (49) and Deepak J Hooda (47 no). Assam made 116-9 in their stipulated 20 overs.
