 BJP to focus on development of BTC region, security of people: Sonowal

KOKRAJHAR, March 8: In a significant development, the Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) which had little base in the BTC region has gained ground after the ruling BPF has been facing interl strife over denial of party ticket to aspiring candidates for the forthcoming BTC polls. Many prominent BPF leaders have joined the saffron party recently.

A huge gathering for change was held at Dwimalu field in Kokrajhar on Sunday.  The public gathering, which was chaired by the president of Kokrajhar district BJP, Biti Bala rzary, was also attended by the State BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharjya, Union Minister of State for Sports Sarbanda Sonowal and five BJP MPs.

In his address, Union Minister Sarbanda Sonowal said the people of the region wanted change and the BJP with its vision for establishment of good governce by easing corruption had been working for the people of all communities, ensuring safety, security and all-round development. “It would be a great mistake on my part if being in Kokrajhar  I forget to mention the me of Bodofa Upendra th Brahma who worked for the down-trodden people to bail them out from all injustices,” he said adding that the BJP could bring change in BTC. Prime Minister rendra Modi had instructed all the Union Ministers to take up development projects in the Northeast, said Sonowal,  adding that the BJP would come to power in the State in 2016  as the Congress had failed miserably. 

Sonowal said the BJP would ensure safety and security of the people if it came to power in the BTC, besides bringing development. He said there was need for skill development centres in the region to make the unemployed youths self-reliant.  On the development of sports in BTC, Sonowal said it was unfortute that the SAI Special Area Games Centre in Kokrajhar was in a dilapidated state, despite the Bodos having tremendous potential in sports. He assured that the SAI, Kokrajhar would be upgraded very soon.

On the ubated illegal influx in the region, Sonowal called upon all indigenous people to be aware of the immigration of illegal Bangladeshis.

BJP State Siddhartha Bhattacharjya said the BJP wanted a stable government in the region for the sake of development.  He said the people of BTC were not getting due attention from the government for which the region was backward. He said the BJP felt the need for proper focus on development of BTC region and if the BJP came to power then it would give priority to develop the region.

The meeting was also addressed by the BJP MPs, Bijoya Chakravarty, RP Sharma, Kamakya Prasad Tassa, MLA Jadav Deka, BTC EM Mono Kr. Brahma. Earlier, Kokrajhar district president of BJP, Biti Bala rzary gave the welcome address while Maloti Rani rzary, former president of women’s wing BPF gave the vote of thanks.

Around 22 new members who joined the BJP from different political and democratic organizations were felicitated in the public meeting. Siddhartha Bhattacharjya and Sarbanda Sonowal felicitated BTC EM Mono Kr. Brahma and other members. Among the prominent Bodo leaders who were felicitated are Maloti Rani rzary, former president women’s wing BPF, former MLA Parmeswar Brahma, BTC MCLA Kartik Chadra Boro, Kokrajhar district BPF’s Organizing Secretary Bibhuti Borgoyary, BPF leader Rajkumar Brahma, former BLT member Dintiram Brahma alias Loha and Bikram Islary,  former president of Kokrajhar district Garo Sahitya Sabha Weston Marak and others.
