LPG consumers vent ire on Gaazi gas agency

Silchar, April 3: The residents of Ramkrish gar in Karimganj district have expressed fume over the alleged anomalies in the distribution of LPG cylinders by Gaazi gas agency, seeking the intervention of the Ministry of Petroleum and tural Gas into the matter.

 The consumers submitted a memorandum to the Union minister of Petroleum and tural Gas recently demanding action against the gas agency concerned.

 The consumers alleged that despite charging extra money for home delivery, the gas agency have not been delivering the cylinders to the households for many years. After the irregularity of the gas agency is caught by the public, it returns back the extra money that it charges per cylinder in the month of February from the consumers.

 However, the agency is not willing to return back the extra amount it charges per gas cylinder for the last many years which sparked a sense of resentment among the people.

 The sources said that when the Indian Oil Corporation was apprised of the matter, it issued a show-cause notice to the magement of Gaazi Gas agency, but no action has been taken yet.

 The consumers submitted a memorandum addressed the Union minister of Petroleum and tural Gas on Wednesday, urging him to take action against the gas agency and return back the extra money that the agency has charged in the last several years from the people.  The memorandum was signed by more than hundred consumers.

 It can be mentioned here that the agency in question still charges extra bucks for delivering a gas cylinder to a household. The cost of a LPG gas cylinder in Ramkrish gar is Rs 727, while it is charged Rs 765 at Anipur, 7 km from the agency, Rs. 780 at Bhirobgar, 790 at Nibhia and 780 at Dullavcherra. All the places fall within the 20 km range of the Gaazi gas agency. It is alleged that the agency charges an amount more than it is written on the cash memos given to the consumers.

 The additiol deputy commissioner BC th said that he would conduct a probe into the allegations soon. He added that he would also inquire into the extra money that is allegedly charged by the Gaazi  gas agency from the consumers.

 The customers threatened to launch agitation if their demands are not met.
