SIVASAGAR, April 29: A truck loaded with almost 300 LPG cylinders was seized jointly by Sivasagar and Dibrugarh Police on Thursday night at around 10.30 pm in a Dhaba at Sokolia near Sepon.

Sivasagar Dy. Superintendent of Police (HQ) Ponjit Duwarah said, “We spotted a truck bearing registration number AS-23-BC-3839 which was parked near a Dhaba in harani on NH-37 near Sepon under mysterious condition and some LPG cylinders were laid down on ground. But as we got into the Dhaba to inquire the matter, nobody was present there, even the truck’s driver was found missing. So, we suspected that truck was there with an intention of smuggling.”

“As the area falls under Dibrugarh District jurisdiction, I immediately brought the matter into the notice of Pradip Saikia, Dy Superintendent of Police (HQ) of Dibrugarh District,” he added.

Duwarah further said that a bike bearing registration number AS-06M-1665 also seized during the operation.

As soon as Dibrugarh police reached the spot, Sivasagar Dy. Superintendent of Police (HQ) Ponjit Duwarah filed an FIR to Dibrugarh police regarding the case. Later, Dibrugarh Police took off the case and took the truck under their custody for further investigation.

The place and its adjacent areas have of late earned fame as a safe haven of coal, crude oil smugglers. Locals alleged that smugglers have an unholy nexus with police.
