LS Polls 2019: RaGa Reconstitutes NECCC ahead of 2019 Polls, Manmohan Singh made Patron

Guwahati: In a major reshuffle amidst the Congress, Rahul Gandhi today reconstituted the North East Coordination Congress Committee (NECCC). The reconstitution aims that the North East Coordination Congress Committee would spread the Congress outreach in the northeast. The decision has come at a time when the BJP is pushing on efforts to expand its influence in the region ahead of the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The North East Coordination Congress Committee (NECCC) will now have former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as its patron. It may be mentioned that Manmohan Singh is Rajya Sabha MP from Assam.

Also, Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has been named as the chairman of the reconstituted NECCC and all Congress Chief Ministers and former Chief Ministers of the northeastern states will be advisors.

As per an official release from the Congress party, state Congress unit chiefs, leaders of the legislative party, and present and former MPs from the region's states will be members. The party General Secretary in-charge of the northeastern states and the attached secretary will be special invitees to the NECCC.

Meanwhile, the BJP has formed the North-East Democratic Alliance with an aim to expand its influence and also to forge alliances in order to form governments in all the northeastern states.
