GUWAHATI: Lumding Division has laid special focus on punctual running of trains. In the current financial year (2019-20), the division has clocked a peak punctuality figure of 97% by running 103 of the 106 trains in the division on time.

According to a press release, this had been possible by addressing the issue on multiple fronts including monitoring of running of each and every train, root cause analysis of each and every delay, keeping a close watch on speed restrictions by planned track maintenance works, strengthening of coach maintenance depots so that coaches are maintained/repaired quickly and counselling and training of drivers and guards to run trains on maximum permissible speed.

It is noteworthy that such feats in punctuality of trains has been achieved along with improved safety in train operations as accidents have seen a drastic dip in the last few months.

The division is striving to improve the record further by working on raising speed in main line to 110kmph and enhancing capacity. Doubling of track for improving capacity is already going on in full swing in Lumding – Habaipur and Digaru – Hojai sections. The division is also working on ‘Own My Train’ concept wherein individual officers personally own up the challenge to ensure that a particular premium train runs on right time. Although there are many challenges like vulnerability of hill section, law and order problems and speed restriction because of elephant corridors, the division has put all staff in mission mode to achieve the target.
