HAFLONG, March 12: After a lot of speculations, a train carrying ballast successfully crossed the controversial tunnel No10 of Lumding -Silchar B G line at 5.30 PM on Wednesday.
The tunnel No 10 of length 3235 metres located between New Haflong and Jatinga - Lampur B G station had been the prime cause of concern for the delaying of the Lumding - Silchar B G conversion, a railway official said.
The N F Railway had to re-allot the works to ABCI- Apex joint venture as the Patel Engineering, the construction company, failed to carry on the work.
After the resumption of the works of the said tunnel there were apprehension that the tunnel could be made through considering the soil condition and others but the company made it through during the month of October 2014 and by now a train comprising 53 ballast bogies successfully crossed the said tunnel leaving no doubts on the completion of the Lumding-Silchar BG conversion within March 31 this year.
It may be mentioned that the N F Railway started mega block from October 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015 with the aim of completing the Lumding - Silchar B G Conversion project.
