M Karunanidhi in ICU, After Dip in Blood Pressure

DMK president and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was admitted to Kauvery Hospital in Chennai past midnight on July 28. The 94 years old Karunanidhi was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Kauvery Hospital at 1.30 am on Saturday. The hospital authority stated that he was admitted in the hospital after he dropped out his blood pressure level.

He still remains in the ICU and the expert panel of doctors is continuously observing him. Karunanidhi's daughter and DMK leader Kanimozhi said that Karunanidhi's health condition is improving and now his blood pressure is stabilized than before. Several senior DMK leaders, including working president MK Stalin and his estranged elder brother MK Alagiri are looking after him at the hospital along with them many party leaders such as Duraimurugan, Kanimozhi and former Union minister A Raja also joined them there.

Alagiri, who was expelled from the party by the DMK chief in January 2014 also visited Karunanidhi at his home along with DMk leaders before he was taken to the hospital. M.K. Stalin assured the party supporters that there is nothing to worry about his father as his health is improving.

DMK cadres gathered near the hospital after he was admitted there and they were chanting that 'Long Live Thalaivar (leader)'. As the cadres were kept pouring at his residence, the security was tightened at the former Tamil Nadu chief minister's residence. Some of the cadres hold his photos as they are waiting outside the hospital.

The DMK president has not been keeping himself away from public appearance due to his illness since October 2016, but he still holds the top post in the Dravidian party. He underwent a procedure to change his tracheotomy tube to help him in breathing few days ago. Karunanidhi is known as 'Kalaignar' (artiste) among his supporters, followers and politicians. Kalaignar has completed his 50 years of journey as a party chief on Friday.
